Marion is at Hallburn on the 1861 census and at Ladehead on the 1881 and 1891 census.
Marion Semple's family in Avondale: MATTHEW SEMPLE was born in Avondale on the 1st of June, 1811. (OPR Ref. 621/2, FR328). Son of Andrew Semple and Jane Young. Matthew married MARGARET WATT who was born in Avondale on the 4th of December, 1808. (OPR Ref. 621/2, FR324). Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Watt and Margaret Craig. There is an OPR entry for the marriage of Matthew Semple and Margaret WATSON in Avondale on the 10th of December 1831 (Transcribed from OPR Ref. 621/4, FR648). This may be an error in the registration. Matthew and Margaret are at Hallburn Farm, Avondale, on the 1851 and 1861 census. On the 1861 census the address is South Hallburn. Matthew is at Ladehead Farm, Lesmahagow, on the 1881 and 1891 census. They had issue: 1. Andrew Semple, born in Avondale about 1833. (Ref. 1851 Census). Andrew married Mary Semple (b. Avondale c.1842), daughter of John Semple and Margaret Black, at Roundhill Farm, Avondale, on the 6th of May 1870. She was his cousin. They had at least five children. They are at West Linbank Farm, Avondale, on the 1881 census and at New Bridge Cottages, Avondale, on the 1891 census. One daughter, Margaret (born at Roundhill on the 28th of February 1871), is at Ladehead on the 1891 census, working as a Domestic Servant. Andrew died at Newbridge on the 11th of September 1895. 2. Jane Semple, born in Avondale about 1835. (Ref. 1851 Census). Jane married Andrew Semple (b. Avondale c.1826) of Laigh Knowglass Farm, East Kilbride at Hallburn on the 11th of November 1859. He was her cousin, the son of James Semple and Agnes Young. They are at Laigh Knowglass on the 1881 census. They had at least six children. Jane died at Laigh Knoweglass on the 3rd of September 1881. 3. Margaret Semple, born at Hallburn on the 8th of February 1838. (Ref. her marriage certificate). Margaret married John Hamilton of Avonside (b. Avondale 22/2/1813), son of Michael Hamilton and Margaret Hamilton, at Hallburn on the 21st of December 1855. They had at least two children, according to the 1861 census. Neither parents nor children appear to be on the 1881 census. The marriage certificate gives Margaret's date and place of birth as the 8th of February, 1838 at Hallburn. 4. Thomas Semple, born in Avondale about 1841. (Ref. his death certificate). Thomas married Helen Dunning (b. Loudoun, Ayrshire c.1842), daughter of Andrew Dunning and Jean ?; they had at least eight children. They are at Mount Farm, Avondale, on the 1881 census. Thomas died at Mount Farm on the 2nd of November 1891. 5. JOHN SEMPLE, born in Avondale about 1842. (Ref. 1851 Census). John married Agnes Dickie, daughter of William Dickie and Jane Watt. 6. Alexander Semple, born in Avondale about 1844. (Ref. 1851 Census). Alexander is possibly at Laigh Knowglass on the 1881 census, working as a Farm Servant for his cousin/brother-in-law (see entry for Jane Semple, above). He never married. Alexander died at Mount Farm, Avondale, on the 27th of October 1901. His brother-in-law John Cooper (sister Marion's husband) was the informant. 7. William Semple, born in Avondale about 1846. (Ref. 1851 Census). William is at Hallburn on the 1851 and 1861 census. He married Janet Hamilton (b. Avondale c.1849), daughter of John Hamilton, Farmer, and Barbara Hamilton, at Caldermill, Avondale, on the 9th of February 1872. William was then living at Kirkland Farm, Kilmaurs. William and Janet had at least four children - they are at Kirkland on the 1881 census. Janet died at Kirkland on the 31st of July 1881. William later remarried, on the 28th of December 1886, to Grace Wallace Wright (b. Kirkcolm, Kirkcudbright, c.1851), Housekeeper and Dairymaid at Kirkland. She was the daughter of William Wright and Prudentia Paterson. William died on the 8th of February 1915, drowned in Burnfoot Reservoir near Fenwick. At the time he was living at nearby Burnfoot Farm. 8. Ann Semple, born in Avondale about 1850. (Ref. 1851 Census). Ann married Michael Struthers (b. Avondale c.1841), son of Robert Struthers and Sarah Wilson, at Hallburn on the 8th of June, 1869. They are at Auldhouse on the 1881 census. They had at least six children; one son, Robert (b. Auldhouse 18/2/1872), is working as a Ploughman at Ladehead on the 1891 census. Ann died at Blackburn Farm, East Kilbride, on the 30th of October 1924. 9. Matthew Semple, born in Avondale about 1853. Matthew is at Hallburn on the 1861 census and at Ladehead on the 1881 census. He married Margaret Taylor (b. Dundonald, Ayrshire c.1860), daughter of James Taylor and Margaret Morrison, at Bridgeholm Farm, Lesmahagow on the 30th of November 1877. They had at least two children - Matthew (b. Bridgeholm 17/1/1878) and James (b. Lesmahagow c.1879). Matthew died at Merchanthall, Lesmahagow, on the 22nd of September 1895. 10. Marion Semple, born at Hallburn on the 15th of January, 1856. (GROS Ref. 1856, 621, 15). Marion is at Hallburn on the 1861 census and at Ladehead on the 1881 and 1891 census. She married John Cooper (b.c.1851), a Farm Servant at Ladehead, son of Gavin Cooper and Agnes Brownlee, at Ladehead on the 19th of December 1894. Marion died at Low Bowhill Farm, Newmilns, on the 29th of October 1925.
